
We have heard of people profusely thanking the academy for their Oscar but never of people begging for one. This is what Nicolas Chartier, one of the producers of The Hurt Locker, did. In an emailing he sent to the academy judges he explains how his movie should win since it is not a big budget movie, which was an obvious reference to Avatar. Chances were good that Hurt Locker could easily pick up a golden statue at the awards ceremony this Sunday since it cleaned up at the BAFTAs a few weeks ago. The executive committee of the producers branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences imposed the penalty on Chartier, who violated Oscar rules that prohibit mailings promoting a film and disparaging another. Chartier proceeded to make an apology for his actions yet is not speaking to the press and neither is the production company. The other three producers of the war film will be allowed to attend and if The Hurt Locker wins Best Picture then Chartier will be given an Oscar at a later date.
