Vishal gets Aishwarya Rai to say, I do. Finally

Raavan may have tanked, but that hasn’t stopped the biggest directors in Bollywood from chasing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The latest to woo is her is Vishal Bhardwaj, for a woman-centric project that is expected to take off in 2011. Ash has even set aside her dates for the project, sources tell us.

Says a source close to Aishwarya, “Vishal and Aishwarya have a history of misses. “Years ago, she was supposed to do his first directorial venture, Timbucktoo. This year too, she was approached for Saat Khoon Maaf, but she didn’t have the dates and the film eventually went to Priyanka Chopra.”

The source adds that Bharadwaj was hurt by Ash’s constant refusals, but the actress would repeatedly tell friends that she would love to work with him, dates permitting.

“Aishwarya had liked the script for Saat Khoon Maaf. But 2010 has been an especially busy year for her, what with five films releasing. Vishal couldn’t wait, and he went to Priyanka Chopra. It happens. Even Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti was first offered to Priyanka Chopra.

When she couldn’t do it, Katrina got it.”

Now at a juncture in her career where she craves unconventional roles, the actress is finally set to work with the director on the project, a contemporary romantic subject with an unusual climax.

Confirming this, Rai-Bachchan said, “Yes, Vishal and I have been meaning to work together for quite some time.

Things are working out now. He feels I’ve been saying no far too often, but it wasn’t my fault. Things finally are falling into place.”

As she is doing her character in Stepmom which is going to be a Hindi remake of the movie.

Kareena finds it a weird co-incidence that both of them were featured as beautiful women.

In the same magazine when she was going to do Julia’s role in the upcoming movie.

Kareena admits to have watched all of Julia Roberts’s movies and was very much inspired.

To do main roles based on a woman’s story after she watched Pretty Woman and Erin Brokovich.Kareena now feels that even her personality is similar to Julia.

Our heroine feels that beauty is not based on having perfect features. Well, we all could see that Bebo, when you were elected the most beautiful woman in Bollywood!Kareena feels that Julia’s beauty lies in the fact that she is a happy person who is fulfilled. Drawing a parallel, Bebo says that she too is happy and fulfilled and so it all shows on her face. Kareena also goes on to say that she would very much like to be every bit, like Julia Roberts.

‘I’d love to direct Abhishek’

The Karate Kid director, Harald Zwart, whose last film, Pink Panther 2, starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, talks about Hollywood and Bollywood. You came on board the movie after the casting was done. Did the cast get you excited about the movie?

Yeah, absolutely. The Karate Kid is a great franchise, it was something I was dying to do when I heard of it. The fact that Jackie (Chan) and Jaden (Smith) were attached to it kind of sealed the deal. Jackie wasn’t confirmed, but I’m glad he came on board, because no one could have done the role better than him.

What memories do you have of watching the original Karate Kid?
It’s a movie that stays with you, and lives with you. I think everybody has some sort of life before and after.

The Karate Kid. It made us all realize that even if you are being bullied at school, you can stand up for yourself. It was a great way to motivate, and to understand that you don’t have to accept any ill-treatment.

You sound like a fan of the original. Were you nervous when directing the remake? Oh yeah, I’m a huge fan of the original. So the idea was to respect the original movie, but at the same time, I wanted to make it my own movie. We had to! There were certain expectations from fans. We had to give them what they wanted but it also had to be fresh enough for them to enjoy it on its own merit.

Were you bullied as a kid? Did you use any such personal memories in the film?
(Laughs) No, I wasn’t. I have been in fights though, like every kid has. And I remember those fights were just as dangerous as what you would have when you are grown up. That’s why it was important for me to not treat this movie like a kid’s movie. I wanted the fighting to be as real and as grown up as it could. I made sure that I respected the children, and not make the film lighter or dumber because they are kids.

The movie is also funnier than the original. Is it the Jackie Chan effect?
Even Jaden’s a very funny kid! Jackie has a great sense of humour and I’ve always been a fan of his movies. But Jaden loves doing practical jokes too. In my movies, I like to pop the seriousness of scenes with a funny ending, without anyone consciously trying to be funny.

Jaden’s parents, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith produced the film, but weren’t they worried about the risky stunts?
I think they juggled the jobs of parents and producers really well. It’s obvious that they are a really hard-working family. They like reaching for perfection, and that made my job easier. As for the stunts, we made sure Jaden was never in harm’s way. Even if he had to do a split on a roof, there was enough safety around. In the original movie, Ralph Macchio’s character was a teenager, so the stunts weren’t considered too risky. In fact, I felt that the fact that Jaden is younger, made his character more vulnerable and the story stronger. Because, a 12-year-old has less control over his life, and the stakes become higher. Also, Jaden is very focused. He has a mature soul, and that made the story more believable.

Chan has only one fight sequence. Wasn’t it tempting to give him more?
(Laughs) Yeah, that was very tempting. And well, there might be some surprises for you on the DVD. But yeah, we just worked really hard not to go there. The movie was always about Jaden. Jackie, more than anything else, proved himself to be a great actor in the movie. He was very excited to become a soulful master and really had a blast playing a low key, mysterious man.

Do you know any Kung Fu yourself?
(Chuckles) I don’t know much, but I know enough to make a film on kung fu!

On India:
You said, in an interview, how you shot a part of The Karate Kid like Slumdog Millionaire. Was it an inspiration?
Oh yeah, Slumdog has been a huge inspiration to me! I wanted the chase sequences in the movie to be shot like those of Slumdog. It’s tough when you have a crew of 500, but I think we pulled it off.

Have you seen any Indian movies?
Yes, I have seen some. Before I met Aishwarya (Rai Bachchan) for Pink Panther, I had done my research. (Chuckles) But all the movies had difficult names.

What memories do you have of working with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan?
Oh, she’s an incredibly professional and fun person to be around. It’s always amazed me how humble huge stars are. When the cameras were not rolling, she was one of the nicest people in the world to hang out with. She is a great human being and I’d love to work with her again.

Any other Indian actors you’d like to work with?
Well, Aishwarya’s husband… I forget his name. Abhishek? Yeah, he’s a terrific guy, I think. I’d love to direct him someday.

Ever fancy making a movie in India?
I would love to shoot in India, even if it’s only for a commercial. I’m really amazed by the country and want to see it for sure.

Demand for Hyderabadi beauties is going high in Pakistan. After the well disputed marriage of Sania Mirza with Shoaib Malik, now the new pair coming up in the news is Pakistani speed star Shoaib Akhtar and Bollywood beauty dia mirza.

Pakistani media has publicized it on a high note that Shoaib Akhtar will soon marry dia mirza and bring her to Pakistan. While there is no reliable information from either of the families, news has spread like a wild fire and this new link up has become burning topic at all levels.

It is worth to mention here that Shoaib Akhtar has earlier brought forward the marriage proposal with Sonali Bendre which hasn’t materialized. One has to wait for few more hours or days to get the right information.

It is accidental that Shoaib Malik and Shoaib Akhtar share the same initial while Sania Mirza and dia mirza too share the same. Let us hope that this news turn into a senseless gossip.

Pakistani Cricket Star and Former Captain of Pakistani cricket team Shoaib Akhter, is all set to marry the Indian tennis star Diya Mirza, claimed a local TV channels of Pakistan.

The TV channels said that the mother of Shoaib Akhter has met the family ofDiya Mirza, and proposed her for her son. The channels also claimed that Sania’s family has accepted the proposal and the two families are all set to engage the two S’s soon.

The channel quoted the sources of Shoaib’s family and said that engagement ceremony between Shoaib and Diyaare expected to be in next month.

Both Diya and Shoaib are one time engaged in the past but their engagements could not last long.

Shoaib family rejects Aisha ’nikah’ claim

LAHORE: Shoaib Malik’s brother in law Imran Zafar Malik has denied that nikah happened between Shoaib Malik and Aisha Siddiqi.

Speaking to Geo here on Wednesday, Malik said that Aisha’s family was welcome to go to the court.

“India’s Siddiqi family has disgraced Shoaib, he said, adding, we will also not hesitate to take a legal course against them,” said Malik.

On the issue of marriage reports with Aisha Siddiqi, he said that Shoaib remained mum o the issue due to the involvement of a girl.

No `Lahore` in Pakistan

The most critically acclaimed Indian film of this season, ‘Lahore’ which releases globally on 19th March, 2010, has been denied a release in Pakistan.

The reason that the concerned authorities in Pakistan mention is the title of the film, which is being looked upon as creating hassles in the neighboring country.

In addition also a thought that all the Indian Films show Pakistan in a negative way, is the another reason that the film did not get the permission to be released in Pakistan.

Though director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan tried to take a step ahead in bringing down barriers and also taking a gutsy decision of naming his film to Lahore. But now it all seems to be going against him.

Produced by Sai Om Film Pvt. Ltd. and being distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures in India, Lahore stars a blend of talented vast like Farouque Shaikh, Nafisa Ali, Sushant Singh, Shraddha Nigam, Saurabh Shukla, Kelly Dorji, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Late Nirmal Pandey & Mukesh Rishi.The film also marks the Debut of Aanaahad & Shraddha Das in the lead pair.

Undergoing a huge disappointment, the Producer of the film Vivek Khatkar of Sai Om Film Pvt Ltd. annoyingly quips- “ Our film doesn’t have anything in negative about Pakistan, infact it really has some good sides of the other nation, which I believe has never been shown in our Indian films before.

The name of our film is ‘Lahore’ because the climax of our film is set in Lahore, and we have no intentions of hurting anyone’s sentiments. “I can understand the apprehensions that the concerned authorities ofPakistan have, but I can only say that we have made an International film and not just another Indian film, only the language of the film is Hindi.

It is sports based film and on general issues, which can be between any two nations and not only India-Pakistan but the actual hero of the film is the emotions of a family and not that of just countries. “Well, I am quite surprised and hurt but only hoping that we can release our film inPakistan , because I want everyone to see this film around the globe and take away some memories of a film of a lifetime. Rest, the time will tell.”

The story of ‘Lahore’ is about Veerender Singh from India, played by debutant Aanaahad, who is living with an aspiration to quench the thirst of revenge for a long forgotten wrong doing and restore the lost pride. He has to satisfy the nation and a billion. Though he is a sportsperson, who has to win theKickboxing Tournament for his nation, but more than this sport, is a vengeance mounting deep somewhere in his heart which is much bigger than any victory.

Will he be able to retain the pride of his country as well as fulfill his wish and retaliate back for one ill event that changed his life forever? Is what is to be seen. ‘Lahore’ is being looked upon as the most authentic sports film ever made in India and despite ofthe film being shot in Pakistan itself, it hasn’t got a nod from the neighbors.

Well, as the tag line of the film says, “Beyond borders, between Nations lies a battle to end all wars”, what is to be seen now is that will the film end all the wars or will it indulge itlsef in to a political and debatable war which might do a financial damage to the film and its makers!

I’m a big fan of Shah Rukh – Akon

International R&B singer Akon, who is here to record songs for Shah Rukh Khan’s film Ra.1, says he is a big fan of the Bollywood superstar and that he will not only have shows in India during his world tour but would also do more work here soon.

“I am a big fan of Shah Rukh. I am very familiar with Shah Rukh’s work. I am meeting Kareena (Kapoor) for the first time today,” Akon told reporters in a press conference here Tuesday. He is not only singing but also composing song for Ra.1.

“I am also composing. You know, I will give him (Shah Rukh) a couple of versions of the song, the way I do it. And I will also integrate it with the traditional way the Bollywood films are done. I will give them options and they will decide, which one to use in the film,” saidAkon. Produced by Red Chilies Entertainment”, Ra.1 will see Shah Rukh playing a superhero.

Asked if he is planning to do more work with Indian music directors, he said: “You will see me doing more things in India soon.” The singer insists he finds African entertainment culture quite similar to what he sees in India.

“You know the tradition in Africa is not different from India. There is same type of entertainment going on, the difference is only in language. I always wanted to expand my horizon, explore and enjoy,” saidAkon who will soon go on a world tour. He is looking forward to performances in India as well.

“The world tour is coming soon and India is one of my biggest market so I will do number of shows here,” said Akon. The singer dedicated two lines from his song “Beautiful” to actress Kareena Kapoor, who was present at the event. She plays female lead in Ra.1.
