If theatre tests an actor’s true potential, films gloss over the shortcomings quite finely. The retakes, the cheat shots, the clever camera angles apart.

The actors always have the option of getting their lengthy dialogues prompted. But no such tactics for Aishwarya Rai. While shooting.

The Tamil version of Mani Ratnam’s bilingual film Raavan, Ash had the option of using prompting, and she did opt for it in one scene but was not satisfied with the result. “I can’t take prompting.

First of all, I don’t know the art of someone holding a placard and me reading it,” Aishwarya is quoted as saying by a news agency.

Recalling a scene in which she relied on prompting, Ash said: “I tried it once, but it was such a flop because I was in the water.

And they were holding the placard behind the camera and suddenly Vikram enters the frame and he started acting his bit. Then I had to bank on my memory because Vikram came in front, blocking the placard.”

In fact, working in the bilingual movie turned out to be nothing short of a linguistic challenge for its actors. Vikram who’s a Tamil superstar plays Ash’s hubby in the Hindi version and had to speak Hindi dialogues. On the other hand, Malayalam actor Prithviraj had to speak his dialogues in Tamil for the same role in the Tamil version.

The wait for Ashwariya Rai Bachchan’s fans is coming to an end with two of her movies Raavan and Endhiran (the robot) are set for release in few weeks from now.

The ex beauty queen is pinning hopes on both these south Indian movies and its success may turn around her career that’s witnessing a free fall.

The career span of Bolloywood heroines mostly last for about a decade. We have seen this with Hema Malani, giving way to Sridevi, who passed.

The baton to Madhuri Dixit that went to Ashwariya Rai and now appears to be slipping on the lap of Katrina Kaif.

With the release of the two movies viewers are anxiously watching whether the former miss world may rewrite a new chapter in the history of Indian cinema.

And gain the numero uno position in the Bollywood or she will follow the customary rule of the female leads saying adieu to tinsel world, once she has decides to tie the nuptial knot.

This is because Indian audiences traditionally do not accept a heroine who is officially not single. This has happened in the past and many heartthrobs had voluntarily left the silver screen, others were forced to do the domestic chorus as their ratings have plummeted at the box office due to matrimonial reasons.

However, whether these parameters may apply to Ashwariya as well, that’s something being keenly watched. The release of ‘Raavan’ and ‘Endhiran’ are touted to be her litmus test and whether they are going to resurrect her career will be known from just a while from now.

The first movie that’s due for release is ‘Raavan’. Made by seasoned director Mani Ratnam and musical scores composed by A.R Rahman is completing its the post production work and due for release. The audio release of this film has already taken place recently in Chennai.

‘Ravan’ is a multilingual film made in Hindi, Tamil, Telegue and Malayalam. This movie is supposedly a modern day adaptation of Ramayan, and is an intense love story focused on the Ram-Sita pair. In Tamil Ashwariya is cast opposite Vikram and in Hindi hubby Abhishek Bachchan is the hero.

The storyline runs on expected lines. Abhishek Bachchan’s sister dies due to Vikram’s recklessness and so he kidnaps Vikram’s wife Aishwarya. Vikram goes on to save Aishwarya.

Well that’s the Tamil version of the story which is also going to be dubbed in Telugu. In Hindi Abhishek and Vikram swap their characters. The sister’s role is played by Priyamani. In Malayalam, Prithviraj plays the hero.

Mani Ratnam has shot at least four climaxes for the movie. In first, Ravana wins the heart of Sita! Second, Sita reaches Ram fighting Ravana, third, death of Rama and fourth, the death of Ravan. The climax is full of suspense and no one knows which one is been finalized by the director.

Ashwariya made her movie debut in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film ‘Iruvar’ in 1997. She has also appeared in his Hindi movie ‘Guru’ in 2007 with Abhishek Bachchan as the hero. Now when her acting career is on a tailspin, she is also waiting for Mani Ratnam’s magic to cast its spell on the audiences. Whether, the success of ‘Ravan’ would breathe a new life into Ashwariya’s career is remain to be seen.

It appears that Ashwariya’s career is coming to a full circle. She had her first commercial success with the Tamil movie ‘Jeans’ in 1998 directed by S. Shankar, another big director of Tamil cinema and her next major release is ‘Endhiran’ and that’s directed by S. Shankar.

The director is known for making mega budget movies and ‘Endhiran’ is made with an estimated over 150 crores, the highest ever budget for a Tamil film. ‘Endhiran’ which literally means ‘robot’ is a science-fiction film. It has generated a lot of curiosity not only for big budget and Ashwariya’s stint with the Tamil language but also for other reasons.

Ashwariya is cast opposite superstar Rajnikant, the superstar of Tamil Cinema. Any movie that features Rajnikant is bound to be a super hit. In this movie, hero Rajnikant teaches Karate to Ashwariya who would be seen doing martial arts and bashing off many negative characters.

Ashwariya has reportedly signed this movie for 6 crores rupees, making her the highest paid actress in India. The other highlights of the movie are two exceptionally picturesque songs. One is shot at the historic site of the Machu Picchu in Peru with other scenes being picturized in the United States and Brazil.

The other song is shot with about 1000 artists dancing along with Rajnikant and Ashwariya that’s shot at a gigantic set created at Ramojirao Film City Hyderabad at an estimated cost of Rs.3 crore rupees.

The movie ran into controversy for its English title ‘robot’ and its name was changed into Tamil because of the Tamil Nadu government’s policy to give tax exemption to films only with Tamil titles.

‘Endhiran’ is a bi lingual film, simultaneously made in Tamil and Hindi. Its musical score is also done by AR Rahman. The post production work this movie is near completion and only an auspicious date is being searched for its release.

Ashwariya is pinning lot of hopes on director S. Shankar’s directorial wizardry. With Rajnikanth as the lead, it’s expected that ‘Endhiran’ is sure to be a mega hit. However, whether this movie may turn out to be another ‘Jeans’ for Ashwariya, that remains to be seen?

During her career, spanning over a decade Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has acted in over forty movies in Hindi, English, Tamil and Bengali.

She made her Bollywood debut in, ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’ opposite Bobby Deol, but came to attract attention in the movie ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam,’ staring Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan. Her performance in the film won her the Filmfare Best Actress Award

Her movie ‘ Taal ’ was a big musical success. She won her second Filmfare Best Actress Award for ‘Devdas’ in 2002.

After a low phase in her career during 2003–2005, she appeared in the blockbuster ‘Dhoom 2’ in 2006, which turned out to be her biggest Bollywood commercial success. She appeared in films like ‘Guru’ in 2007 and ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ 2008, which were commercially successful. Ashwariya has acted in the international productions ‘Bride & Prejudice’ (2004), ‘The Mistress of Spices’ (2005), ‘The Last Legion’ (2007) and ‘The Pink Panther 2’ (2009) in English.

The miss world 1994 has been the most popular face of Indian cinema globally. In 2004 she was chosen by Time magazine as one of the World’s “100 Most Influential People”, and appeared on the cover of Time magazine, Asia Edition. In October 2004 a wax figure of Ashwariya was put on display in London’s Madame Tussaud’s wax museum, the only Bollywood heroine to get this honor.

Even though Ashwariya will be seen in movies like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Guzaarish’, Vipul Shah’s ‘Action Replay’, Abhinay Deo’s next film produced by Farhan Akhtar and Vishal Bharadwaj’s next directorial venture, the success or failure of ‘Raavan’ and ‘Endhiran’ is going to set the tone of her future career that’s right now on a cliffhanger.

We have had South Indian stars doing Bollywood films and vice versa.

Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Bachchan is reportedly planning to do a couple of Kollywood films.

The stunner is no stranger to Tamil having debuted in Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar in 1997.

She was raw debutant then. Today, she is a sophisticated star and one of the Bollywood’s top heroines.

The actress has come full circle since those times. After almost a decade, two of.

Aishwarya’s upcoming projects will have Tamil versions. Raavan and Robot will be dubbed in Tamil.

As Ravana and Endhiran respectively. These are her most ambitious Kollywood ventures so far, though.

She has done films like Jeans and Kandukondain Kandukondain. In Raavan.

She teams up with hubby Abhishek and mentor Ratnam while in Robot, she will be seen with Rajinikanth.

A Tamil coach tutored her on the language and diction for Raavan. She wooed everyone by dubbing for her own lines.

She also got the tone and accent right! For Robot, it was Rajini himself who gave her lessons. A source revealed that Ash is a fast learner. Though she found it difficult at first, she was able to rattle off lengthy dialogues with ease!This has made the diva more confident about doing Tamil projects. She loves Tamil films as they are technically and script-wise very rich. When asked about it, she stated that she has to understand the dialogues before delivering them.

She dislikes mugging dialogues without knowing what she is saying. So she made special efforts to learn the nuances of Tamil before embarking on these projects. The results are there for everyone to see! Vannakam anyone?

Action Replay is Ash’s first full-on comedy

Aishwarya Rai has three very different films coming up this year, but director Vipul Shah says his film Action Replay will bring to the audiences her first full-fledged comedy.

“Of course comedy, which is the hardest genre to do, is not taken seriously at the awards. But in my film, Aishwarya has done comedy for the first time.

She may have attempted it here and there earlier. But this is her first full-fledged comedy role.

But she’s welcome to get the awards for her other two releases…I don’t mind,” Shah said. Mani Ratnam’s Raavan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish are.

The other two films she will be doing this year. While Bhansali’s Guzaarish is set to release in November, Raavan and Action Replay.

Which also stars Akshay Kumar, are due to hit the theatres in quick succession within a month.

While Raavan is slated for a June 18 release, Shah is all set to release his film in July, arguing that the two films are completely different.

In mood, theme and treatment. But the filmmaker had a bitter experience last year when his Salman Khan-starrer London Dreams released.

A month after the actor’s home production Main Aur Mrs.Khanna. Now apparently Shah plans to sit down with Mani Ratnam and figure out a release strategy whereby neither film suffers.

I’ve yet to figure out when I can shoot it because both Aishwarya and Akshay are constantly travelling. We were supposed to shoot it earlier this year in the snow in Manali. Now we may go higher up at the Rohtang Pass or change the location for the song completely,” the director added.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Bruised on the Set of ‘Raavana’

Poor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan! It seems like the actress has been as unlucky as fellow Bollywood beauty Katrina Kaif lately! After falling ill.

On the set of “Action Replay,” Ash cut herself while shooting her new movie, “Raavana.” When Ash, one of B-town’s biggest stars, fell ill while shooting “Action Replay” with Akshay Kumar, Bollywood was on high alert!

The model and actress had spent a week on Manori Island working with Vipul Shah on the movie that tells the story of a time-traveling man, played by Akshay.

But all of a sudden, while shooting a scene, Ash got sick and had to take antibiotics. But it seems like Mrs Bachchan ate the medicine like candy and soon had a bad reaction. Her lips got swollen and her fever worsened.

But what to do when you have to finish a movie? Well, Ash is a true professional and decided to simply cover her face with a veil and continue shooting! Interesting! No rest for this L’Oreal girl!

“The reaction could’ve either been because of the antibiotics, which she took in excess as she had to finish the shooting yesterday.

As well as fulfill the next important commitment of being the keynote speaker at a women’s summit today, or it could also be an insect sting,” Aishwarya’s spokesperson said at the time. Poor Ash! And now the actress is at it again! This time she cut herself while shooting the movie “Raavana.”

Ash reportedly climbed a mountain as part of a scene where she wanted to perform a stunt herself, but as is often the case when the stars want to be in on the stunt action, it backfired and Aishwarya suffered cuts and bruises. Akki-Ash to come together for a romantic flick

Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have earlier been seen in the film Khakee but that was not really a love story.

So when Vipul Shah cast the two again in his film Action Replay, he was sure that he didn’t want it to be an ordinary affair.

The same brief went to Pritam too. Apart from the agreement the composer was asked to sign.

To give only original music, Vipul added that he wanted something “out of this world”

And his enthusiasm got rubbed on to the composer. “The music for the film will rock because I wanted to do something really good.

Akshay and Ash make an interesting couple and that deserves some good tracks,” says Pritam.

The making of one of the songs – a Holi song – was revealed on the occasion of Holi a month ago.

Pritam says special attention was given to the Holi song and the final climax song. “Earlier, the situation was Holi. But then Vipul said if there is a Holi song then it will be played only during the festival. So he wanted me to do something different for the theme. Hence, we tried different flavours and made a song which will be played throughout the year,” he adds.

It is not very common to see the Bachchan Bahu at the audio release of a film. But the occasion was special here as it was the audio launch of Tamil film “Rettachuzhi” produced by Shankar, who is directing her in “Endhiran: The Robot”.
Aishwarya looked ravishing as ever in a white saree at Sathyam Cinemas Monday evening. “When we explained to her the significance of ‘Rettachuzhi’ and the cast of the film, she immediately agreed. It’s not just her beauty but her commitment towards her profession, which has made her a great actress,” said Shankar who was obviously thrilled to have her at theoccasion.

Ash released the audio cassettes and CDs of “Rettachuzhi” which were accepted by noted lyricist Vairamuthu. Ash had once been described by Vairamuthu as a “Taj Mahal weighing 50 kilograms” in one of his lyrics forthe film “Jeans”.

The fans were elated when Ash spoke in fluent Tamil and later switched backed to English. “It’s an honour for me to have been present at this place among legends like Balachander and Bharathiraaja and I feel proud about it. I also feel happy that a woman is treated so respectfully at a public function like this,” she said.

“I can never forget the Tamil film industry and director Shankar in my life. Shankar’s ‘Jeans’ was my first successful film. The many things I learnt during the making ofthe film gave me enough self-confidence that I could continue to act for a few more years.

“I feel even more proud to be part of Shankar’s ‘Endhiran’ opposite superstar Rajnikanth…I watched a few songs and some sequences from ‘Rettachuzhi’…I think Karthick Raaja’s music and tunes are excellent. I would surely watchthe film in future,” she added.

Well, the myth shattering news is that she can also speak Tamil, the popular South Indian language.

And that, too, with the precision of a surgeon’s knife. Place: Chennai Ash took everyone by surprise.

As she came knocking at the audio launch of Tamil film ‘Rettaichuzhi’ produced by Shankar.

Who is, incidentally, the director of her next flick opposite South superstar Rajnikanth in ‘Endhiran: The Robot’.

The audio cassettes n CDs of ‘Rettaichuzhi’ were released by Aishwarya and accepted.

All eyes on Ash at audio launch

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the cynosure of all eyes at the audio launch of ‘Imayamum Sigaramum Rettaisuzhi.

In Chennai Monday, a film produced by Shankar, who is directing the former Miss World for ‘Endhiran’.

The ‘Bachchan bahu’, accompanied by her mother, attended the function with a white designer sari.

And was showered praises by all dignitaries who spoke at the event. R Parthiban even read out a ‘poem’ in praise of Aishwarya.

The audio was launched by Aishwarya who gave the first copy to Vairamuthu. Two songs and trailer were screened for.

The full-house crowd, which, Aishwarya said, impressed her a lot. “I saw the trailer and songs and think that the film will be.

A complete entertainer for family watching. Shankar sir is a genius. I enjoyed working with him in ‘Jeans’ and in ‘Endhiran’,” she said.

Shankar, in his address, praised Aishwarya as the beautiful woman in the world and said she is a committed professional. “I am proud to produce ‘Rettaisuzhi’. It will make the viewers happy,” he said.

Snow spoils Aishwarya-Akshay love song

Aishwarya Rai and Akshay Kumar were recently supposed to fly to Manali to shoot a romantic song for director Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s film Action Replayy.

But to everyone’s shock it snowed in Manali in February, which none had expected. And since there was not a snowball’s chance.

In hell to shoot in such an inclement weather, Shah had to cancel the shoot. Shah’s patience is surely being tested to the hilt.

First, Ash’s extended shoot for Mani Ratnam’s Raavan delayed his film, and now that the principal shooting is over.

And only two songs need to be canned, weather is playing spoilsport. The song to be shot is based on a 1970s melody by Pritam.

It shows Ash and Akshay romancing in the winter of a hill station. Since the film’s story progresses backwards.

In time (hence the title ‘Action Replayy’) the song shows Ash and Akki as lovers in the 70s. Vipul now needs another date slot from both his stars to shoot the song, but the question is – will Ash and Akshay be able to squeeze out extra dates from their chock-full diaries. In fact, we hear Vipul may altogether drop the idea of shooting the song and exclude it from the film.
